I’m thinking about moving there at random. Are the people nice? How is the job market I work in IT? Is housing affordable.

Its sometimes referred to as “The Redneck Riviera”. The gulf coast is beautiful and many people are willing to work for lower wages to be able to be close to the beach.

Panama City, FL. is located on the panhandle of northwest Florida on beautiful St. Andrews Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. Panama City is known as a popular tourist location year round offering a comfortable climate and friendly atmosphere.

People are very nice for the most part in NW Florida. A nice mix of people. Things tend to move slower, which can be good or bad depending on the person.

The job market isn’t great. My suggestion is look for work with St. Joe Company, civilian jobs on the military bases or commercial real estate. The residential real estate and construction was booming, but with the market cooling and sales way down lots of those jobs are going away. Lots of jobs based on tourisim, millions of people vacation at PCB which always makes for fun night life (during the spring and summer).

Panama City Beach is amazing. Great Beaches, lots of bars, restraunts and once Pier Park is finished there will be good shopping. This is the best place in the U.S. to buy beach property right now. CNN, Money Magazine, Business 2.0, etc, have pick Panama City Beach as the #1 place to buy now. With a projection of 72% gain over the next 4 or 5 years. You can pick up a beach house, 3/2, near pier park and a block or two from the beach for under 300K!

Panama City intown is okay. There is a papermill and the smell from it is awful. So don’t buy anything near the mill! Houses are cheaper in town and have more land.
